Hey gang, looking for some pretty specific. Take this opening to Fellowship of the Ring:

“When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence, there was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton.”

So comfortable. So unassuming. Little did we know we were about to embark on a quest so unlike anything else… and so influential.

I’m looking for suggestions that capture a similar feel. Comfortable and unassuming yet preceding incredible depth, from total darkness to the highest hope. A journey. Growth. Iconic action.

I would say The Dragonbone Chair comes somewhat close-ish. I would understand a comparison to A Wizard of Earthsea but it didn’t quite do it for me. Narnia’s an obvious comparison but I’ve read those tens of times throughout my life.

Open to any suggestions! Really looking for something I might not be aware of.
