I just finished The Housemaid. It only took me a few days. My last few books have been The Sailor Who Fell from Grace With the Sea, Blood Meridian, and No Country For Old Men – so I was shocked at how much I enjoyed The Housemaid and how quickly I devoured it.
Is it destined to be a formulaic Netflix series? Absolutely.
Does it have the prose of Cormac McCarthy? No
Is the plot highly unlikely? Yes.
I still enjoyed it… a lot. It was just **fun.** it has a big Gone Girl feel. Weirdly enough, it made me feel confident in my reading skills, especially since my past 3 books.
I see people complaining that this book’s plot isn’t air-tight or certain characters act too unrealistic… and while that may be true, this book is a juicy drama. Don’t read it expecting a true crime novel.
If you’re someone who fell out of love with reading or have been challenging yourself too much… try The Housemaid. It’s like dropping the difficulty down on a hard boss and still having a great time beating him.
