So in the past year I’ve read My Year of Rest and Relaxation and The Bell Jar (I know lol) but I’m hoping to find more that scratch that same itch. What I liked about these books was the flawed nature of the protagonist and that they expressed hate, disgust, vices, things a lot of female characters don’t get to fully show emotions of.
I read like half of NightBitch but honestly after the first few chapters it felt a little furry core, I liked the beginning but it just started to drag for me.
If you have any recommendations that would be great really appreciated.

“Bunny” by Mona Awad
Not dark but I really enjoyed “Queenie” by Candice Carty-Williams
Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami, or The Vegetarian by Han Kang. Actually many female Asian authors have published quite a lot of books with this theme.
Problems by Jade Sharma. Animals by Emma Jane Unworth. Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason, Paradise by AL Kennedy. And if you are happy with non fiction How to Murder your Life by Cat Marnell, Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel and More, Now Again by Elizabeth Wurtzel.
Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante. No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July.
Motherthing by Ainslee Hogarth, is pretty great. quirky weird, and well-written
I’m reading Ripe by Sarah Rose Etter right now and it has a similar vibe to My Year or Rest and Relaxation.
