I grew up around horses and have been really missing them lately. I’d like to read something where horses are a central part of the story, but I haven’t been able to find any that match the other things I’d be looking for in a book.
Can anyone suggest anything that meets the following criteria?
– centres around horses, but preferably not horseracing, hunting or war
– nothing with cruelty to horses/injury/death as a major plot point
– real world and set within the last 200 years or so – not fantasy or historical
– for adults, not YA/kids
– not a romance novel
– not about snobby rich people
– good quality writing
– likely to be available on Kindle
No need to make any suggestions like “this is a kids’ book but…” because if it’s about horses, you can pretty much guarantee I’ll have already read it! I’m probably looking for something that’s like a more grown-up version of the Jinny books, Flambards, National Velvet, and so on – things that strongly focus on the relationship between people and their horses.
