Something standalone or a new series is fine. I’m thinking along the lines of the Gap Cycle. I read Blindsight by Watts a while ago; it was alright. Thanks!
Update: I’m thinking I might start the Revelation Space series. Not sure how “dark” it is, but I liked House of Suns.
