This would be my first time purchasing a book. I’ve been looking at bunch of books including ones considered classics and such, and there are many! I need sort of help as to what I should I read first. I’ve been eyeing Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, Mauss, 1984 and The Hunger Games. I am really open to anything, so your own recommendations are welcomed.

My favorite book of all time is the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I’ve recommended it to tons of different people in my life with all different interests and everyone loves it.
It usually helps if there’s a movie or show you like it can help find similar works but here’s a list of books that I like and usually suggest to people:
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt: A dark comedy Western about two brothers travelling to California to kill someone during the Gold Rush.
The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton: A murder mystery where the detective is reliving the same day again and again and the only way out is to solve a murder.
Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra: Murder mystery set in Mumbai where the detective tries to solve the death of a gangster while the dead gangster narrates his life story.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman: A man gets out of prison and goes on a road trip with Odin to prepare for a war between old and new gods.
Slaughter-house Five: A man gets “unstuck in time” and experiences all of his life at once.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John LeCarre: Someone high up in MI6 is a Russian spy. The only question is who? Only disgraced agent George Smiley can find the mole.
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick: What if the Nazis won WW2?
My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!
