What are your thoughts about this book authored by Roy Morris Jr? I just finished reading it and for me, it humanized Mark Twain in a sense that it showed his vulnerabilities and optimism while journeying through life’s uncertainties. When we think of Mark Twain, a lot of us imagine a wise man in white suit bearing a resemblance to Einstein offering words of wisdom and life quotes that ring true for many people from several different walks of life. However, only a few know about the ‘before’ version of him as Samuel Clemens. The author did a fantastic job of gathering the facts and laid it all in the book – the good, the bad and the ugly. Without giving away too much for those who haven’t read it yet, ‘Lighting out for the territory’ offers a fascinating insight into the life of a literary giant before he had any idea of what kind of ‘mark’ he’d eventually make in American literature.
