I finished ‘Wolf in White Van’ recently. That was good.

You seem to be looking for Gothic fiction and sci-fi though. For Gothic, ‘The Bloody Chamber’ by Angela Carter may appeal to you? Then, with sci-fi, anything by Ted Chiang is worth reading.

Anything by Elmore Leonard will help sharpen anyone’s dialogue. (I read Killshot last summer and it helped me)

Stephen King is great for inspiration when you find yourself too many descriptive sentences and fancy words when you can just say “fat moon”

I find that reading outside of my prefer genre (thrillers) provides a great change of perspective. I read The Only Good Indians not too long ago and it really stuck with me.
