I need to choose two books for a writing/reading class and I’ve already tentatively chosen Jason Reynold’s Ghost as one of them. The problem is that Ghost is so good I’m finding it hard to balance out.
Any GOOD novels/novellas–maybe tops 220 pages or so with (preferably) a female narrator or protagonist? Realistic fiction (for the most part) rather than fantasy, please, poetic prose is a plus, and engaging humor would be wonderful. Bonus if good discussions arise out of the text. Thanks, folks.
I’m thinking of Bloomability by Sharon Creech, but it’s missing something (not that I could write it). I also read Something About Jellyfish–nah. Moon Over Manifest was great but it’s a bit long for what I’m looking for. If I can’t think of anything soon, I’ll go with Hatchet or From the Mixed Up Files. I’m reading Becoming Naomi Leon now and maybe it’ll work, but we’ll see.

You mentioned Sharon Creech’s book *Bloomability*… what about *Walk Two Moons* instead?
