I am planning to go on a week-holiday and I would love to distract myself from quite anxiety-laden time in my life. Usually, I enjoyed reading books like ‘Piranesi’ by Susanna Clarke, ‘A little life’ by Hanya Yanagihara, or ‘In perfect light’ by Benjamin Alire Sáenz where there are a lot of introspection and inner journey that characters need to embark on…

There are number of books that on my list now: ‘Young Mungo’ by Douglas Stuart, and ‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney. However, I would love to read something lighter in tone as I would kill for a bit of escapism. I was wondering whether there are any light-hearted or cosy books that are similar to Ghost Whisperer or Heartstopper (preferably adults books, but YA are fine too).

The Ghost Whisperer show is about Melinda Gordon who can see and hear earthbound spirits that she helps to cross-over by helping them resolve some of them unfinished business or help them find peace. The episodes are usually very heart warming and it is more about being emotionally vulnerable and being able to find forgiveness for yourself and others. Heartstopper has healed my inner teenager as it tells a beautiful story about two teenagers who navigate their identities and their lovely relationship. I love both of those shows for modelling a healthy communication and boundaries.

In my younger years, I have read my fair share of YA LGBTQ+ stories (‘More happy than not’, ‘We are the ants’ or ‘Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe’). I love fantasy element set in contemporary world too. Perhaps I am asking for something too specific, but I would be grateful for any recommendations.
