Just finished Cassandra Khaw’s The Salt Grows Heavy and not sure how I feel about it. On the plus side, Khaw paints some seriously creepy scenes. You definitely feel like you are in a horror novella. On the other hand, the language was bordering on excessively obscure (First time I’ve seen someone use the verb “flense” twice in less than 100 pages), which got a bit distracting. And some stuff didn’t really make sense, logistically speaking. But does it need to? If you’ve read it, what did you think?
