I have grown up on the internet literally reading Wattpad when I was 13. I was initially introduced to reading because there were free books on it. My parents never really cared to encourage me or they themselves didn’t know what books they were to give to their child. They were of the opinion that novellas are read by older ladies and had- like smut or something 😭 they discouraged me reading.

I obviously grew out of Wattpad once I got access to libraries. And begged to buy books at the book fairs.

I almost always read the popular books. YA books like 1) the Divergent series
    2) Beautiful creatures
    3) Call me by your name, some controversial uncomfortable books like lolita, I wanted to understand and unreliable narrator. 1984 by George Orwell.

I tried to pick up philosophy books like Beyond good and evil and metamorphosis.
I happed to read a lot of booktok books, even though i avoid mindless books, apparently even The secret history, Circe, the book theif, little life, cruel prince are all too mainstream.

Am I missing out of genuine niche good fiction? Can someone please recommend touching stories? Even better if the setting is in India.
