I want to see a book that means something to you, a book that you read over and over not only because the story is good (in fact, maybe it’s not even good, but you have a fondness for it), but because it brings back a memory or a moment that you treasure.

Mine is The Lord of the Rings, and it’s because my immigrant parents knew I devoured books beyond my age and “heard that there’s a new movie coming out about these books” and thought I would enjoy them, even though they had no idea what the books or movies were about. I remember how proud of themselves they were when I obsessed over the books. When I read it, I always think about how much love went into getting me those books as a kid.

So, let’s hear yours! Just one book.

[**Shark Heart: A Love Story** by Emily Habeck](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62919375) made me realize that i need to make the most of the time i have with my aging mother.

the premise of this book sounds ABSOLUTELY INSANE, but the author did a fantastic job of using body horror as a vehicle to explore love, loss and letting go.

this is my second favorite book of all time, but the book that has stuck with me the most. it’s haunting and melancholic and sad and knowing what it’s a metaphor for makes it 1000000x more brutal. i can’t recommend this one enough.
