“If you loved Fullmetal Alchemist you’ll love World Trigger” they said. I watched it and… snore. How do you write a story about aliens invading earth and fail to give it a compelling emotional hook? Edward wants a body for his brother, the only family he has left, Eren wants freedom for his people and revenge upon the monsters, Ash Ketchum wants to git gud at pokemon fights, Goku wants to fight and grow, and the World Trigger protagonists… exist. And would probably like to not die to the alien invasion.
I watched the whole thing. But I was underwhelmed by a lot of it.
Weak smart guy is entertaining sometimes, the OP children are boring. The fights are decent but nobody taught this writer how to write dialogue that respects your time. Characters take forever to say what a few words could say in a more memorable and emotional way with characterization. The fights are leagues above most shonen. If you liked Demon Slayer this will blow your mind. But man, I am underwhelmed by World Trigger. At this point I think it’s a red flag for anime if there is a scene where a test of power results in a protagonist being off the scale, unless it’s a parody like in Dragon Ball and One Punch Man. Protagonists should earn their power.
Got anything better, world of literature? You probably do. Fantasy, Sci Fi, Sci Fi that is basically Fantasy but with a few tech terms here and there, I’ll read anything as long as it’s like a shonen battle anime except better written than World Trigger. I’m looking for real books here with words and no pictures.
I do not care for Demon Slayer. I haven’t read books in a while but Demon Slayer can suck it, it’s all style and no substance, no soul, no intellectual value.
