I love world building, and usually find myself writing about fictional political parties whether it’s post apocalyptic, sci-fi, or fantasy. But I can’t seem to find any books around these topics. I’m sure I’m just not searching the right things! Please could you suggest me books that are about fictional politics, I’d particularly love any that are about fictional democracy’s/political parties.

    1. I like the imaginative political groups in Kim Stanley Robinson’s The Years of Rice and Salt and his Mars Trilogy

Otherwise Alternate History webfiction’s your best bet.

Reds! A Revolutionary Timeline reimagines the Cold War with multiparty communism. The paid ebook on Amazon is out of date.

Fear, Loathing, and Gumbo on the Campaign Trail imagines the US party system collapsing in the 1970s

Malé Rising by Jonathan Edelstein imagines radical progressive strains of Islamic political thought spreading through Africa and the Middle East during the 19th century, with similarly creative ahistorical movements emerging elsewhere

    2. Ursula K Guin uses her science fiction to explore politics. I can recommend the Dispossessed first, and the Left Hand of Darkness next.
