I ‘ve just finished Haillie Rubenfeld’s book The Five, which proposed an alternate history to the dominant story about Hack the Ripper murdering prostitutes. She does a deep dive into the lives of the affected women based on historical and public records, and ensconced it in the social historical context, to suggest that they were down and out women, probably sleeping rough.
Can anyone suggest other social history/investigative books of a similar nature?
