I really liked Aniana Del Mar Jumps In. It’s a YA novel in verse about a star swimmer who gets diagnosed with arthritis.

If you’re up for memoir, *Autobiography of a Face* by Lucy Grealy is one of my favorite books of all time. *The Collected Schizophrenias* by Esmé Weijun Wang is also phenomenal.

*Sixteen Souls* is YA paranormal (ik you said no fantasy but……), but the main character is a double amputee, he uses prosthetics and a wheelchair at different times, and is also queer. None of these details are what the story is “about.”
*Turtles All The Way Down* is YA contemporary and its about a teenager with OCD, not sure if that’s the rep you’re looking for, but the author also has OCD and this is a story that a lot of people have connected with. Some parts really scream TEEN NOVEL but I’m 28 and Aza Holmes made me feel less lonely.
*Interesting Facts About Space* is Adult Contemporary, the main character was also born deaf in one ear, is OCD and autistic coded (I believe she’s referred for an autism assessment, but I can’t remember if it actually happens), she has an irrational fear of bald men, minor spoiler: >!and finds out she’s struggling with PTSD and avoidance!< and all of these are somewhat significant parts of the story.
