Can you suggest intresting novels with no cruel things such as s**cide, murder, animal suffering… I recently bought Kafka on the beach and it was going so good until we got in animal killing and it made me afraid to buy books without recommendations.

I could go crazy with recommendations, so I’ll keep it to a couple favorites based on the excellent writing (I don’t recall any of those themes in these books):
[Stoner by John Williams](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/166997.Stoner?ref=nav_sb_ss_3_6) is a melancholic novel about an American professor who, despite all his good intentions, can never hit the mark. It’s very well written, and I continued to root for him throughout.
[The Cape Doctor by E.J. Levy](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50998140-the-cape-doctor) is based on the true story of an Irish woman who lives her life as a man so she can study and practice medicine.
