Hello all!
I am looking to read a biography on MLK Jr. Firstly, to understand more about his life, but with a specific interest in how his life experiences shaped his philosophy and specific views toward civil rights. In particular, I would be very interested to learn more about how his understanding of Christianity / his theology expressed itself in his actions.
I found high recommendations for the 1986 book “Bearing the Cross,” and from the title and cursory reading I’ve done thus far, it sounds very apt.
However, I see that in 2023, “King: A Life” was released, and garnered high praise. It also, obviously, has access to information that has only been released since 1986.
I would wonder if anyone here has views on whether it would be more suitable overall for me to read the newer book or the older book, if you have engaged with either of these in the past?
Thanks!
