I’m a gay white man who, since my pre-teens (I’m 24, now), has mostly read stories about gay white men. Growing up, I mourned the lack of stories in media that I could personally relate to, so I’ve spent my adult life so far hunting down stories that relate to my experience as a gay white person. They aren’t the only kinds of stories I read, by any means, but there is certainly a discrepancy between them and the BIPOC stories I’ve read. So, I’m seeking to broaden my horizons and learn more about experiences that aren’t quite like my own! Specifically, gay (MLM) stories between non-white men! Not just romance or smut, either—although, I’m not against these elements being present; I just prefer stories with a little more substance, that will move and educate me.
That, or gay BIPOC horror novels!
For tonal reference, here are some of my fav (MLM) books:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara • The Absolutist by John Boyne • The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller • The Dove in the Belly by Jim Grimsley • The Bright Lands by John Fram • The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez • The Prophets by Robert Jones, Jr.
Thank you in advance for the recs! <3
