Masters of terror

Hi all, I’m looking for the scariest books ever written.

I’m currently reading King’s Salem’s lot and while I’m enjoying it, I just don’t find it scary. Perhaps I should read something else from Stephen King? What would you suggest?

I’ve also recently read Ryu Murakami’s Audition and I’ve liked it, I think I’m looking for something like that, rooted in realism and in psychological horror rather than stories with monsters.

I also like sci-fi, that would be a bonus.
