Trying to stay sober and need a book to occupy my mind – loved dune (I actually reread it every couple years since I was a kid) – tried the sequel but i never made it very far – I think I missed Paul – read some of the extended ones back in the day but they didn’t hook me like dune did
Fantasy —— I enjoyed the first four or five wheel of time books before I lost interest – never finished the lord of the rings – it wasn’t for me – I enjoyed the harry dresden books which are modern fantasy I guess?
Just finished wise guy, casino is on my stack but I want something new – I’ve been reading biographies and historical books lately want to find a good new sci fi author or maybe a mystery writer
Any suggestions would very much be appreciated

Have you tried the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov? Thinking you might like that.
Asimov also wrote some SF-mystery novels that are groovy (even if I can’t think of a title offhand, lol).
I love Dune and have read it a few times. Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion are high on my list of best Sci-fi as well as Book of the New Sun, if you can handle an unreliable narrator and trying to unravel what they mean.
In terms of mystery and crime, Mystic River by Dennis Lehane is probably my all time favorite.
