it’s a friend’s birthday in a month, she’s turning 19 (scary age) and i wanted to get her a book that somewhat aligned with that, but i’m struggling. i remember being terrified at 19 because it felt like the end of my youth, barring theatrics, it is scary to be that much closer to adulthood. we’re both avid readers, but our tastes sort of differ.
she prefers: the supernatural (preference for ghosts), smut, wattpad books, and has a strong preference for books written in first person as they’re more immersive. that’s as much as i know as a lot of what she reads is on wattpad, which i don’t really know how to navigate, but was she has recommended me looks very forbidden, sexy bad boy romance and the chosen one fantasy.
some i’ve considered are:
* the secret history, by donna tartt (one of my favourites, though i hesitate w/ this one since she’s not too interested in what i’ve recommended her so far)
* perks of being a wallflower, by stephen chbosky (YA book 101)
* bunny, by mona awad
* ninth house, by leigh bardugo (i haven’t actually read this, but i feel like it’d be up her alley?)
* coraline, by neil gaiman
* shatter me, by tahereh mafi (a book i read when i was 16, it’s sort of angsty the way she is.)
