Myself and the kids (10 & 11) will be driving all the way up to Alaska from the lower 48. Two weeks to get there, thereabouts. Averaging a little under 300 miles per day. We will have a lot of solitary time in the woods.
I’m looking for literary fiction, speculative fiction, etc. (sci fi too, though I’m a bit less interested) that would be enjoyable in or enhanced by the surroundings and isolation. I plan on both listening to audio books and some physical book reading as well. Not a kindle user. And probably would prefer to avoid horror or stories containing natural disasters or injuries to kids!
Last five books I read, for reference in terms of what I’ve liked: North Woods, No Country For Old Men, Kindred, Bear Town #1 (currently in #2), A Gentleman in Moscow.
My kids are enjoy reading very much too, so middle grade and kids fiction (10&11 yo) is welcome too. They like mysteries, funny stuff, and some fantasy. We just started The Swifts.
Thanks!!
