This is mostly because I’m writing a novel about a pilgrim traveling through an eldritch mountain range.
Two things I wanted to focus on while I do that:
1. I want to know more about pilgrimage. Under what circumstance would this kind of thing start, famous ones, etc. That way I can better write about it.
2. If there’s a good fantasy about a pilgrimage, I’d like to read that. It’ll give me a sense of how people approach the concept plus I love good fantasy.
I like:
-The Wheel of Time (currently halfway through book 7)
-A Song of Ice and Fire
-Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
-Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
-The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle
I’ve already read things the Journey to the West, the Canterbury Tales, and (I feel like this fits) the Dark Tower series.
Could anyone please suggest history books written for laymen AND/OR fantasy on the subject of pilgrimage?
