I’m an EFL English teacher and I’ve been developing reading curriculum for after kids finish phonics classes to go along with grammar. My novel curriculums focus on teaching English through mass vocabulary study.
I make workbook to go along with each book. My first Harry Potter workbook is 167 pages. Kids study 60 words per chapter and have comprehension questions, a chapter review section and spelling test for the vocabulary basically.

But my first series I use is the Harry Potter series. I use this for middle schoolers and it’s the most advanced book series I use.

The second series I use is the Roald dahl books. They vary in difficulty, fantastic Mr fox being the easiest and matilda being the hardest (which is a notable but not significant step up)

I’m not so worried about what comes in between these series as by the time they’ve finished the Roald dahl books honestly they can just about jump to Harry Potter due to understanding the format of the classes well and having done it for several years.

I also have a large collection of phonics reading books for the lowest level students (which actually get quite advanced by the final phonics books).

What I really need is a good series of books or author with a collection of books I can fit between the phonics and the Roald dahl stuff. If anyone could recommend some things I’d be very grateful and I’ll check it out 😊

I’m also British if it helps (if you didn’t notice from Harry potter, I heavily lean towards British materials. Actually, now that I think about it, my entire curriculum including the phonics books are all British).

    Thanks everyone c:
