I don’t however want books with characters that are BORING. No, no—in fact, it would be nice if the characters are relatively pretty interesting/fun. It’s just that their LIVES are insufferably boring and they have to deal w/ that.
I feel like this is a common plot for a lot of school kid books, which I do like (as in, I like books where the characters are bored at school), however, I don’t want anything written for a younger age group than YA. No middle grade pls. (And ofc books NOT set in school are wonderful too.)
Other than that, go wild.

For a YA novel that features characters dealing with boredom in creative ways, you might enjoy “Paper Towns” by John Green. The protagonist, Quentin, finds himself embroiled in an adventure as he follows clues left by his enigmatic neighbor Margo, who’s disappeared after a night of daring escapades. This book captures the essence of mundane life being disrupted by the quest for something more. Another option is “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt, where college students, bored with their regular lives, delve into a darker world of their own making. Both books offer complex characters and engaging narratives that move beyond simple school settings.
