I have started getting back into the habit of reading in 2024 (having lost it for a while) and have found a liking for historical fiction. I have read Amitav Ghosh’s Ibis Trilogy and The Glass Palace in the last 3 months. Loved them both but found the pace and character arcs of Ibis more to my liking. I also finished and loved watching the Shogun miniseries and think James Clavell should be the next author i explore. The question/dilemma I have is do I read the Shogun novel or should I skip it and read other James Clavell novels. Regardless of your answer, I am also looking for the right order in which to read his books.
Any other historical fiction books that are a must read are also appreciated as suggestions.

*The Name of the Rose* is the best historical novel, IMO. It’s a little more “intellectual” though so up to you if you like that.
