I’ve never been much of a non-fiction person, but I’ve just finished The Mushroom at the End of the World and couldn’t put it down. It encompasses farming, supply chains, capitalism, forest management, but also includes poetry, art, and personal experiences in its exploration of the matsutake mushroom.
Does anyone here know of anything vaguely similar? The short chapters and holistic approach to studying fungi really stood out to me.

You might like *Braiding Sweetgrass*!
I’m not sure if you are only interested in books about fungi but Mary Roach writes very entertaining non fiction science related books.
Anything by Bill Bryson. I especially enjoyed At Home.
I’m also not much of a nonfiction person, but here are some nonfiction books that I’ve enjoyed recently which sound somewhat similar to your likes:
* On Trails by Robert Moor. A series of really fascinating essays about trails and outdoor life. Very personal and engaging.
* Four Lost Cities by Annalee Newitz. You will learn more than you ever thought possible about four great and then lost/abandoned cities: Çatalhöyük, Pompeii, Angkor Wat, and Cahokia.
