Our teenage son is into reading a variety of fiction and decided to do a month-long book-giveaway (r/India_Book_Giveaway) to share the joy of reading.
We offered to buy ANY genera of books from Amazon or other online book-vendors for the most deserving requestor who reached out with a brief description of their need. A few observations
* Only a few opted for popular bestsellers. The vast majority of youngsters wanted “exam preparation” books and guides. Of course, this shouldn’t have come as a surprise given the intense pressure on the youth to crack competitive exams.
* Exam-prep books, which are generally a compilation of question-banks with a few key nots, are generally expensive.
* In this digital era when there a vast amount of information on the internet, some youngsters still prefer printed books
