Hi everyone! Two months ago my country had national elections and I still can’t wrap my head around how politicians could so easily fool people with their promises before elections and doing completely different after. It’s like that same politicians know some kind of a secret recipe on how to manipulate masses to maximize number of votes, like they have learned those skills from some book.
I’m looking for a book that explains these things from a psychological perspective of masses. I’m mostly interested how that works in democratic societies but would not mind if book covers how politicians can manipulate masses in other societies too. Also, it would be great to learn some tips from that book on how one can successfully defend himself against politician lies and frauds.
Hope this community can help me find that kind of book. Thanks in advance!

The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein talks about how crises are exploited by neoliberal governments and what effect that has had in places like Chile.
The Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins, It details the process the CIA developed to overthrow democratic governments in SE Asia, Latin America.
I’ve only watched the video I’ll admit, but the quintessential book on how a modern western democracy is controlled is Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky,
