I’m trying to get into romance because even though I love the genre in motion picture, I don’t know why I can’t get into it in book form. I think one of my qualms is that the writing can get a bit cringe (to me), the male leads aren’t the types of men I tend to be attracted to (a bit too chiseled for my liking) or the stories too twee. Because of my romance movies preference, I tend to choose lighter romances because I thought that that would be what I could like but I guess not. So far at least.
I’ve enjoyed literary fiction that have romance/romantic relationship elements in them (eg. Americanah, Normal People) but quite frankly they’re not too romantic, are they? I also really liked Alone with You in the Ether, although again I do question, is that a romance?
