I am a long time fan of Jane Ann krentz / Amanda Quick. However in recent years her writing has skewed towards things that are somewhat mystical. That is not my interest at all.
I love the wit, and storyline, of her oldies such as Trust Me and Affair.
Does anyone know of an author similar to her who writes either current or historical fiction but without things about crystals, hypnosis and such?

Also a huge Krentz fan here. I think of Krentz as one of a kind who’s totally in control of her romance thesis and has made it hers.
I’d love to know of more who are like her. So far, a few authors who strike a similar note for me, or at least scratch that itch, are:
Elizabeth Peters with her Amelia Peabody Victorian mystery-romance series. Cozy mystery along with a funny, light story that also focuses on the tension between the sexes – how femininity and masculinity collide.
Alexandra Sellers – most of her series stuff. She writes more angsty, intense stuff (but not as angsty as Lowell or Howard), but there’s an element of the male/female dynamic there that is a bit evocative of Krentz. She also sometimes inserts a suspense or mystery element. But she is not as mood-consistent as Krentz.
In a vague way, Jessica Hart, Leigh Michaels, and Sophie Weston are three older Harlequin romance authors who “feel” like Krentz to me in mood, though they are all very different. And none of them do much with suspense or mystery arcs if I recall. They do tend to be fairly consistent, but their stories do cover a wider mood range than Krentz.
