When I started reading, I really only stuck to memoirs and non fiction. Reading books about survivors really helped me with my trauma I was learning to deal with from my childhood. I am dealing with depression and worse feelings and I think being able to find a book where I can relate with the character would help me. I am okay with memoirs, fiction or non fiction. I am okay with books that have graphic language/ material like talks about suicide, attempts, self harm etc… because those are all things I have dealt with.
I also am curious if there are books where someone has lost their battle to depression. I know that is a very harsh topic. I also am not looking for a book where everything just works out perfectly in the end and is one big fairy tale because that is not realistic.
Also not looking for any self help books regarding depression. I am on a wait list to see a Dr. And I have a good support system if I need it, I’m just having a hard time with my feelings and would like to relate to a character to feel less alone.

The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson.
These are Epics a lot of people refer to as “self help” books.
These books are LONG. Like… not far off from the LotR trilogy long. Thats each book.
The character in this book tend to have some “condition.” Kaladin, the main character, is a depressed boy who finds himself in the military and then a slave. The entire plotline is, essentially, getting through whatever mental ailment each character is going through.
Every single character that has a “condition” is written well and I believe many can relate to most of the characters in some capacity.
Book one, “The Way of Kings” is a bit of a slow burn… but I PROMISE the ending is worth it.
