Okay so I recently read The Familiar and even though the book wasn’t crazy good (the story was too basic) I really really liked the world it was painting. It reminded me of the video game Blasphemous and The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis which I read years ago and was obsessed with for a while… I realized that Spanish Inquisition is the mutual theme in all three… I know it sounds silly but I guess I’m into Spanish Inquisition era aesthetics lol. I tried looking up gothic books etc thinking maybe that’s the genre (thx to The Monk) but I’m not sure that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Any recommendations for historical fiction/fantasy that has a bit of magic and heretics and sambenitos and purity obsessed priests?
