Dan Simmons is a phenomenal author. The first two books of the Hyperion series are excellent.

Both are incredible works. Hyperion is far less of a commitment. You can stop after the second book. Only read Endymion if you’re absolutely in love with the world and need more. Pulls you in on page 1.
Malazan is huge, even if you limit yourself to book of the fallen. Gardens of the Moon is generally regarded as the least of the series. It’s enjoyable, but things dramatically improve with book 2. It is work. Myriad of characters, who may not be mentioned for some time between books, who go by various names and titles, in dozens of interweaving plots. It’s worth it, but it’s not a casual read by any stretch.
Read both. They’re great. It really comes down to what you’re looking for at the moment.
Fun fact, a lot of Malazan was written in a cafe that I would frequently visit to drop a bomb in the bathroom when I’d be working downtown Victoria. That’s as close to my 15min of fame as I’ll ever get. Apologies if I stunk you out, Mr Erickson.

I have read all four books in the Hyperion Cantos. By far my favourite series!! I haven’t found anything that has gripped like this series did four years ago.
If anyone reading this can suggest another series youay think I’d like based on the fact that Hyperion is my favourite hit me up!!
