For years, I longed to be able to buy books, but I couldn’t afford them or even pay for them because I was ostracized from online payments back when I was in Syria, we were basically isolated from the outside world for about a decade, most websites were blocked, there were no online payments, and if you somehow managed to get money in your PayPal or any other online account, they freeze your account and permanently ban you; the only way ever possible to read a book was to pirate it, and it didn’t feel right to me, I refused to pirate them, so I spent years collecting books and recommendations in my reading list, hoping that one day I’ll be able to access online payments and finally be able to afford them, and amassed 163 books that I want to read, mainly composing of self help, business and psychology.
After leaving Syria and finally being able to afford it, I bought my first book, it’s the first step, and now I’m planning on buying a second book next month when and if I can afford it again, but I want your opinion, if you were in my position and you could only buy one book for 11 years, maybe a life changing book, a book that helps you escape such austere impoverishment, or just a fun book to escape the harsh reality, what would it be?

Support your local library if you have one. The more books that get taken out, the more the library is able to justify ordering more books (as opposed to things like spending money on computers, children’s programming, community outreach initiatives).
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho checks a lot of boxes for me. It’s inspiring, entertaining and packed with life lessons.
