Hey there!
I want to clarify that this is not a hate post whatsoever but rather a reflection of my short but interesting experiences with Anthony‘s works.
So, to make it short; I feel like I’m too dumb to read Anthony Ryan.
I don’t have a lot of experiences with his works (I dnf‘d The Pariah at 52%, currently trying to get into The Waking Fire) but from what I’ve gathered, this man just uses extremely difficult vocabulary to the point of limiting my enjoyment with otherwise (probably) great stories.
It has to be said that English is not my mother language but I thought that, with my ethnic background of being half American and my academic success in – and overall comfort with – the English language, I’d have fewer problems but man this guy writes in hieroglyphs sometimes.
I had to write entire vocabulary pages while reading the Pariah because the amount of words I’ve never seen before was just astonishingly huge.
Maybe he’s just not the author for me, who knows but it does sadden me knowing what his stories are about and my inability to fully enjoy them.

Sounds like an intense way to learn new words 😊 What’s your favourite word you learned from his books?
