Don’t know any general novels as such but the cosy crime mystery Dandy Gilver and The Unpleasantness in The Ballroom is great fun. Set in the Glasgow amateur ballrooms of the 1930s, it follows the murders of two dancers and how Dandy [a private detective] solves the crimes.
Though part of a series [this book is about half way through], you’ll pick up the characters and background quite quickly, and Catriona McPherson has certainly done her homework on ballroom dancing. And there’s a lovely dry Scots sense of humour throughout.
