For me, it was when Nelly read Isabella’s Letter about her relating Heathcliff’s abuse. It revealed so much about Heathcliff’s psychology and I was dumbfounded to read Isabella’s comment on Catherine bearing Heathcliff’s name.
‘”But then,” I continued, holding myself ready to flee: “if poor Catherine had trusted you, and assumed the ridiculous, contemptible, degrading title of Mrs Heathcliff, she would soon have presented a similar picture! She wouldn’t have borne your abominable behaviour quietly; her detestation and disgust must have found voice.”‘
I wonder what Heathcliff have thought of whenever he heard his daughter-in-law Catherine was addressed as Mrs Heathcliff?
And another scene from Wuthering Heights that intrigued me the most was when Heathcliff told Nelly of his obsession of getting/disturbing the body of his idol.
