We will celebrate his 58 birthday this weekend and I would love to give him a good book. He used to like to read but he’s been depressed for a few years and hasn’t read a book in a while so I’m looking for something easy but good. He loves Julio Verne and other nineteenth century books like Dracula and Frankenstein. He also enjoys contemporary fantasy and science fiction. Maybe something along those lines or maybe something about enjoying life. I hope you can help me. Thank you so much.

The best book I’ve read this year has been North Woods by Daniel Mason. It is a novel that tells the story of a single house in New England and its various inhabitants over three centuries. It’s incredibly well written and has a really unique premise that interweaves the characters’ stories in a variety of ways.
Try some of Gaiman’s books. Maybe the Ocean at the End of the Lane, or the Graveyard Book. Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy is a fun read as well (I’m only a couple years older than your dad if that helps give Weight to my suggestions).
For a stand-alone book that I loved, I would suggest Project Hail Mary. Truly a great, fun read.
