I’m working on a short story that takes place in Scotland in the 19th century, primarily focusing on a cotton mill and the workers there. Are there any non-fiction books that have firsthand accounts of working in these mills that y’all can recommend? I’m looking for the nitty-gritty about the working conditions, the worker housing, the ailments and injuries they suffered, the child labor – the bleaker, the better.
I know that this is maybe super niche, so I’ll also accept well-researched fiction books, as well as other works that deal with other kinds of factories in the UK around the same time. Thanks in advance!
