For some reason, the YouTube algorithm just keeps pushing for me to follow the most popular Booktubers AKA people who just read YA/ New Adult/ TikTok Books/ Not my thing.

Perhaps controversially, I actually don’t read many modern books (I believe I’ve read precisely one book published in the last 4 years and that was under pressure) and tend to be more interested in older, often forgotten or strange books. Or even popular stuff from genres that, nowadays, aren’t talked about as much anymore. Also, preferably, not fantasy Booktubers, I have enough of those to last me through the winter (Daniel Greene, Murphy Napier, just getting into 2ToRamble, etc.).

To give you proper context, my favorite Booktuber is Man Carrying Thing. He usually talks about older books, a lot of them crime books that were popular but aren’t as talked about now because that genre doesn’t have the same power it used to, being mostly replaced by the thriller. I got into Elmore Leonard because of him and I got The Expendable Man and Blood Meridian because of him. He often only briefly talks about a book, but gets into the pinpoint elements of what worked for him in the book, rather than going on about plot, characters, etc. I like that, feels much more conversational, and if you got anyone else like that, I’d love to hear.

Beyond that, I think Cliff Sargent’s pretty good and there’s an underrated sci-fi reviewer on the channel Media Death Cult that I quite like (most of his videos have been taken down in a recent bullshit copyright strike, unfortunately, but his more recent stuff is still up).

So those are what I got (and consider them thrown into the pot, on the off-chance you haven’t heard of some of them), have you anything to offer?
