Looking for traditional mystery novels – not like golden age, because I’ve read hundreds on hundreds of them, but just straight up detective, murder, cast of suspects style books. I strongly prefer books set in the UK (too much Agatha Christie at a formative age perhaps?)
I love:
Reginald Hill (old school but classic)
PD James (ditto)
Barry Maitland
Elly Griffiths
Simon Mason (my most recent favourite)
Anne Cleeves
Quite liked Deborah Crombie
I really disliked:
Tana French
Louise Penny
Ruth Ware
Lucy Foley
I hate too much angst (do not enjoy detectives with tortured pasts, addictions, or upsetting personal lives, hate it when someone is wrongly accused and it’s about clearing their name) but I’m definitely not looking for cozy mysteries. Nothing too gory for preference, I’m not into serial killers.
Hoping to find a new series to glom!! Thank you!

“Maisie Dobbs” series by Jacqueline Winspear.
I would highly recommend Ruth Rendell. She has a huge back catalogue – half involve fictional detective Inspector Wexford but for me her standalone mystery / crime novels are better.
