I am looking for books that critically, but seriously discus how people who hold views that are way out of mainstream thought and generally rejected by academia develop and hold those views. Specifically what steps are they taking and what errors allow them to maintain incorrect views. Not necessarily talking about, but can include, political conspiracy thinking, but would mean more towards say 9/11 Truthers who use science and engineering to bolster their arguments.
I also am specifically interested if the books compare similarities between groups who might not otherwise be grouped together. For example historical revisionists can be Young Earth Creationists, Pan Africans, Holocaust Deniers, or believe in Ancient Advanced Civilizations. Wildly different belief systems, but underlying it is similar thought patterns.
