I'm looking for fictional books about characters with depression, miserable lives, dysfunctional families, feeling dissatisfied with life or hate themselvs. I'm also looking for books about acceptance, self-acceptance and healing, I think those themes move me a little more. I already read A Thousand Splendid Suns, Never Let Me Go, Atonement, The Elementary Particles, Sarah's Key, The Road, Stoner, Of Mice and Men and many many more. None of them made me shed a single tear. I did get a bit moved by Flowers For Algernon though, but not enough to make me cry. I've tried to read A Little Life and The Bell Jar but I found them too… dense?
Anyway, as I'm saying, I am basically unable to feel (I know that sounds weird, I promise I'm not a psychopath! I'm actually a pretty sensitive person, but I don't know why I can't feel anything when I'm reading). I always hear comments from people who say this or that book destroyed them, but when I read such book I don't feel a thing.
I'm more inclined to read non-fantasy, I don't like Young Adult books either, but if you've read an emotional-wrecking book from that category, please let me know anyway.
Thank you in advance!
