I just read “The Murderbot Diaries” and am reading the “Little Mushroom” duology right now, and I love love this kind of book. Books where the main character is non-human, surrounded mostly by humans, and has to contend with human culture/understanding human emotions/etc. I love grappling with what it means to be a PERSON and shit like that – I’m not looking for, say, just a book about an alien from another culture interacting with humans unless that’s part of it.
Bonus points for:
* Books where the non-human character is autistic-coded (Murderbot my beloved)
* Where they have to hide that they’re not human/hide in general/etc. for at least some of the book
* Where the character doesn’t consider themself to be human, but that doesn’t make them less of a PERSON. Where person =/= human.
* The more LGBT the work, the better.
This is niche-ish, but I know more works out there def exist lol. I’m planning on checking out “Ancillary Justice” eventually since it’s about a spaceship in a human body, as another example. Both sci-fi and fantasy are great. Thanks!!
