Specifically, a dark secret that I can sympathize with, but other characters in-universe are reluctant to accept. I've found it very rare to find stories that actually fulfill this interest in satisfying ways. My favorite part of this dynamic is always the part where the main character tries to mend their relationship with the people they know.
I also especially like stories where the dark secret is something dangerous, like for example, the main character is secretly a monster, or a witch, or assassin. These are especially great because it gives characters a reason to be afraid of the main character, and I always find it really interesting seeing the characters work through the power imbalance that is created.
Things I don't like in stories like this, are situations where the main character is rejected with no hope of ever reconnecting with anyone they used to know, or when they are accepted by everyone easily with no conflict. The part I love is the main character struggling to repair their relationships with friends and family (and sometimes society), so having that never happen (or get skipped) is a real disappointment.

Great Expectations – Charles Dickens
Less fantasy, more about characters harboring bad secrets. .
