Hello! I'm looking for more books similar to The Alienist, but maybe not how you think. I enjoyed the book for it's triller/suspense elements, but I'm most interested in historical fiction books that include historical figures/places/elements that make it read more like nonfiction. I liked the show Black Sails for it's inclusion of both fictional and historical pirates and weaved both elements together where it made everything feel realistically historical rather than making everything feel distractfully unrealistic. For context, I'm a professional historian and find it very difficult to read historical fiction when I'm constantly being asked to suspend disbelief when it comes to people and events.
Are there other books that give the same type of vibe to either of the above mentioned titles? I'd like to stay away from historical romances, but most other genres are of interest to me!
