I was never much of a reader, the only book I read in its entirety was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton for summer reading while in high school. Up until recently I read The Hobbit and LotR(at age 24 say what you will) and in the middle of it all I read a 92 page play adaption my brother had of 1984. Well now I would like to read some more. I want to get more into middle earth and try the Silmarillion but I’ve heard that’s a tough read. For now I’d like to read a chill fiction book, something 200-300 maybe 350 pages. Not a hard read but not necessarily an easy read either. Could be fantasy or historical fiction. I do enjoy good character building(if that’s what you would call it) any suggestions would be appreciated!

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, perhaps? His worldbuilding is his forte, and if you like it there’s a whole universe to get into.
Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
This is the first book in a trilogy. Both fantasy and historical fiction.
I would urge you to read the sample or the first chapter before deciding on what book you want. I’ve tried to concentrate on fairly compulsive reads (or at least I found them so) but we all have different taste.
All Systems Red – Martha Wells – SF
The Postman always rings twice – James M Cain – American Noir
Cannery Row – John Steinbeck – Literary Classic
The Tombs of Atuan – Ursula LeGuin – Classic Fantasy – I think this is actually my number one recommendation. I feel like LeGuin and JRRT are good overlaps and Earthsea is her Hobbit. So a nice onboarding into classic fantasy that is well written but still accessible.
Maybe the Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell
Or Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
The land of stories
Maze runner
Divergent
